ALERT (3/10/20): If you have traveled or are planning to travel, we encourage you to follow guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) about potential risks associated with your destination and how to stay healthy while traveling.
The WeWork Labs Satellite Program is our work abroad program — bringing members from one Labs location (Home Lab) to another (Destination Lab) while maintaining the same level of quality programming and mentoring at your home lab.
- The Satellite Program is ideal if you are interested in traveling the globe to launch or grow their business in new markets.
- You receive a customized agenda, desk space, access to the destination Lab’s programming, and office hours with the Labs Manager and WeIR based on the length of your stay.
- The Satellite Program is NOT designed to support fundraising. If you are looking for investor introductions, discuss this with your Home Labs Manager and create an investor pipeline with realistic and relevant investors for your business that can then be shared with the Destination Labs Manager for potential introductions.
HOW IT WORKS:
- Satellite Request: Book Office Hours with your Home Labs Manager to discuss your goals and set expectations for the Satellite Program.
- Application: Fill out application at least 3 weeks in advance. Your Home Labs Manager and Destination Labs Manager will be automatically notified of your request.
- Review Goals & Set Expectations: You, Your Home LM, and Destination LM meet to confirm trip expectations.
- Agenda: Destination LM creates an agenda for your trip based on your goals and expectations.
- Post-Visit: Fills out Satellite Program feedback form.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How far in advance should I submit my application for the Satellite Program?
Please submit your Satellite Request 3+ weeks in advance. With a longer lead time, we are able to better prepare for your visit. If you fail to submit your form 3+ weeks in advance, your Destination Lab may not be able to accommodate your requests and goals for the trip beyond a desk in the Lab.
Are all Labs available for me to visit?
Only Labs that have been open for a certain period of time and are at a certain occupancy are able to host Satellite Members. If a Lab is open and does not appear in the Satellite application, they may not have met the requirements yet. Additionally, Labs may only host up to 3 members / month – so fill your application out as soon as possible!
Can I stay at the Destination Lab for more than one month?
Unfortunately, one month is the maximum amount of time you can travel on your Satellite Trip. If you wish to stay longer, you may transfer your membership and pay the monthly cost of the Destination Lab.
Is the Satellite Program only for Founders? Can employees also participate?
Yes, anyone on your team with a Labs membership can participate. Be sure to indicate how many desks you will need throughout your visit.
I’ve submitted my application, now what?
Your Home LM and your destination LM will process your request and work together to develop a plan for your stay. Depending on the length of your stay, this plan may include a list of curated workshops and talks based on your stage, a list of relevant members in your destination lab, a list of relevant mentors, etc.
Can I book conference rooms in advance?
Absolutely. Let the destination Lab manager know, in advance, when you will need a conference room or phone booths.
When can I get into the building?
The Destination Labs Manager will coordinate a meeting time with you to set you up with a tour by either the Community team or the Destination Labs Manager. In general, your key card will have access to the building from 9AM - 6PM. You are welcome to stay later and arrive earlier, but be prepared to have someone let you in if it's outside of the building's hours.
Can I meet the head of Labs and the founder(s) of WeWork?
While the founders of WeWork would love to meet as many labs members as possible, unfortunately they cannot commit to meeting everyone! Work with your LM and destination LM to identify if it makes sense to meet with the Head of Labs for your destination.
I am currently seeking funding for my venture. Will I be introduced to investors?
This will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Work with your LM and the destination LM to come up with a plan of action for meeting investors. Make sure you have a complete investor pipeline with reasons for why you’d like to meet each investor prior to asking for the introductions. You should also have your pitch deck and forwardable emails ready to send to the Destination Labs Manager if they have agreed to make introductions for you.
How can I sign up for a one on one session with the Labs Manager?
The destination LM will provide their calendar availability for you to book time for a 1-1 meeting.
Will I have to pay the difference in membership fee at the destination Lab?
While there are differences in monthly membership fees across Labs globally, we do not expect you to cover the difference for such a short duration. If you plan to permanently transfer to the destination Lab, you will be responsible for the new membership fee.
Will WeWork Labs sponsor my trip (including accommodations, meals, travel, etc.)
You will be responsible for all costs associated with your trip. Be sure to connect with the destination Labs manager and labs members for tips on dining, lodging, navigation, etc.

How will I get to the lab from the airport?
You will be responsible for all costs associated with your travel. Be sure to connect with the destination Lab for local navigation tips!

“This program is so f*cking awesome. I feel like going all around the world working at other Labs locations and meeting energetic people who love what they do.”
"Plenty of connections. Met and connected standups.io's founder, for example. As well as many others."

"The most promising meeting was with Siddartha Shetty, from RBC, who I believe may directly lead to a new work opportunity. Thanks Tom!"
"Wow. Jordan Niemeyer definitely exceeded my expectations as he not only connected me with other Labs Managers, but mainly because he connected me with a few people who are amazingly valuable based on my objectives. Jordan is the single reason why I am confident [I] will be doing business in NY soon, and also the reason why my trip was worth it. On my first day Jordan spent 2 hours to understand our business and our needs to come up with very specific solutions and connections. I felt blessed to have had him by my side in this trip"
"Tom was so incredibly helpful. He was extremely fast to respond to communication, our intro video call was so warm and he was so excited about our work, and he opened up so many great connections in Toronto. I so value his support and will definitely be keeping him updated regularly as a major champion and supporter of our work."
